In July of 2015, I advanced into the role of Product Manager of Mozilla's Webmaker platform and Android app, not long before its global launch. We hit 100,000 downloads later that year, and learned more than a few things in the process.

Webmaker was an experiment, a mobile app designed to enable people to create content for the web from their mobile device. It was designed especially for people who were getting online for the first time, often only on mobile, haivng little-to-no experience with the web or computers. Webmaker was an idea that emerged from a research project, then took on a life of its own.

We developed a great app that offered something compelling to many people. We hit most of our initial indicators of success, including reach and rention.

As the company's strategy evolved, we withdrew our investment before we had a chance to optimize the app's market fit and realize it's full potential. It was the right choice given our new priorities, and a very rewarding experience. We leveled up our expertise with analytics and user research, and our capacity to ship installed software.
